Lemosho Route

Mt. Kilimanjaro
Overview

Mt. Kilimanjaro

Tanzania

The remote, scenic Lemosho Route across the Shira Plateau — the most gradual acclimatization profile to Uhuru Peak, Africa's rooftop.

Mt. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, an inactive stratovolcano at 5,895 metres (Uhuru Peak) with three volcanic cones — Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira.

The mountain intrigues its visitors by its uniqueness: its slopes pass through a variety of ecological systems, from coffee plantations and tropical rainforest to heath, moorland, alpine desert and the ice-capped summit. The Lemosho Route approaches from the west across the Shira Plateau, offering the most gradual acclimatization and some of the finest scenery on the mountain.
